LA is the most diverse city in the country, with more than 70% of its 265 neighborhoods hitting the middle of the Los Angeles Times’ diversity index. Variety trumps quantity, as the City of Angels (despite trailing well behind NYC in population) arguably has the best food scene in the country.
While LA might not rank in the top 20 cities in Michelin stars per capita, it’s hugely influential on the world’s food habits. After all, LA is the birthplace of car culture and pioneered fast food and the drive-in. Of course, in a day when many are moving away from unhealthy eating, fast food may soon be a footnote in LA’s centuries long food history.
LA’s celebrated food trucks rely as much on technology–like LA’s famed Kogi BBQs’ patrons’ reliance on Twitter–as they do on freshly utilized ingredients. Or, if you prefer your food delivered, ChowNow—the online and mobile ordering system designed for restaurants—might be more your speed. ChowNow has raised $4 Million since graduating from the Launchpad LA accelerator. Along with food, LA also has vibrant tech and entertainment scenes. It’s not surprising then that Los Angeles is home to both companies like TasteMade which is putting good eats on a digital pedestal.
